A Dj can make or break your special event,A few questions you should be considering

Questions you should be asking when looking at who to use as a DJ at your special event

When the event is important to you and you care about how it flows, how it looks and the experience your guests have do not take the role of the DJ for granted.

When people are organising any event, the first thing they generally book is the venue.  This is usually followed closely behind by their DJ.  Just like the venue, this is a crucial decision but one that is often taken with less thought, either because the DJ was part of the venue package or because people think a DJ is just a DJ.

Is the resident DJ going to ensure you feel special or are you just another gig in the same old place as he goes through the motions???

A DJ will often be the first voice your guests hear at your event as well as the person with the responsibility to make it flow as they introduce the various stages of your function. The Welcome,Introducing Speakers,Artistes,First Dances Etc.If you are having guest speakers or live music, it is often the DJ’s equipment that will be used or their system that other acts will plug their equipment into.

Talking of DJ equipment, do they have the right equipment for the size of venue you are using?  Just as bad as having a DJ you can’t hear, is having one who’s kit is so big, it blows the roof off, (unless that is what you have asked for!).  Also do they have enough lighting to create the mood you want? Do They Carry the correct Public Liability Insurance? Is all their Equipment PAT tested(if it isn't some venues would refuse to let a DJ set up)
Aside from equipment, what about the personality?  Are you looking for a DJ who is the life and soul of the party or one who knows when to be in the background and when to kick it up a notch?  One who will play the kind of music you want to hear, rather than the music they like to play.

The truth is a good DJ knows they are there to enhance your event, not that they are the event!

No-one likes paying over the odds for anything but unfortunately price is also an indicator of quality.  Just like we all know we can buy a loaf of bread for £1.30, we can also buy one for 40p, we just have to decide what kind of sandwich we want before we choose which one to buy!  We are not suggesting you pay silly money for a DJ, but if someone offers to DJ at your event for £100, you may want to ask why?  A good DJ, with good equipment and lights should know their worth, just like we do at Wizardy Entertainments

Djs work hard for their fee. They have to be set up before guests arrive and are the last to leave normally in the early hours

Djs are normally supplying equipment worth a lot of money and they are the ones that ensure your special event is as good as it could possibly be

Look after your DJ and they will look after you

Wizardry have been working with and booking DJ’s for over 15 years, into events as diverse as corporate dinners, award ceremonies, weddings and private parties.  We know their value and only use experienced, well equipped and professional DJ’s.

Maximising impact for your money on your next event

"We want to have a great party event but we have not got a big budget what can we do"

This is a quote I have heard a lot over the last couple of years from clients as budgets are cut compared to previous years

The phrase not a big budget is relative. The secret is to use the money available in the most effective and and memorable way

I will describe below an event Wizardry Events help put together at the end of last year to a client that had the initial perception that their budget was not enough for what they really wanted

After listening to what was important to them and the effect they were looking for with the attendees we decided on a Fun Interactive Trip To The Seaside event

The group attending were young fun people who just wanted to have a great time

Having discarded some high cost nice to haves and adding a forth dimension concept with the smell of the seaside/ fairground using foods of the fair we were able to produce a fun memorable event well within given budgets

Venue

Palace Hotel Manchester

Entertainment used included

Rodeo Bull
Hook a duck Stand
Balls in Vase Stand
Surf Machine
Fresh Candy Floss Stand
Fresh Doughnut Stand
Ice cream Bicycle
Coconut Shy
Test of Strength
Caricaturist
Wandering Pickpocket
Magician
Jester Photogropher
Top class DJ

Room Dressing included

Colourful Balloon clusters
Inflatable seaside toys on tables
Up lighters around the room

Catering

Food served was fish and chips in trays with the Donuts candy floss and Ice cream being used as desert

This was a fun event to put together and has already led to a number of other events with different themes this year for Wizardry Events

The Fairground element of the night ran from 7.30 -10-30 followed by Dj and dancing through till event finish

Carl Royle Magician Facebook Page

Carl Royle:

FACEBOOK PAGE

Initially I was a little sceptical about the facebook page thing but as time has gone on I have found it a useful tool to keep prospects and customers completely up to date with recent activity

Probably  the use of recent images and references have been the most productive posts and have resulted in jobs I may not have got otherwise

I think it gives prospects who dont really know you and may have just come across you on the Internet comfort that all information is absolutely current.

Does this replace the web site www.magicbycarl.co.uk ? Absolutely not.

I still think both serve a purpose though I did read that a couple of Magicians have recently taken down their web sites and are using Facebook only. I cant really see the merit in that

Have a look and please like the page to be kept updated on any Magical activity!!!

Let me know what you think

Have a tip top Magical day

An Event Of Pure Poetry

Pinterest: Follow link for images

Well last month threw up a nice challenge with an intimate awards event to be held at the Rochdale Museum

The table centres had to represent all the trades that the original pioneers specialised in

With much thought the table centre shown on the above Pinterest link was born with a pyramid of glass bowls on a mirror base with a mixture of raw materials and skill representations. Also images if the pioneers and advertisements from the time were scattered around the base

It is not often you are asked to come up with a table centre that tells a story but the client was over the moon with this finished product

The other unusual aspect of this event was that the client wanted a presenter/actor to read out a welcome and then thank you pieces to all the award winners dressed as a pioneer but all in rhyme!!!!!!

With Wizardry events extensive contacts we used a local poet to collate information on all the award winners and produce a verse of poetry for each award winner or team winner

We then had these printed on special scrolls for the award winners to keep and cherish

Feedback from this event was exceptional from the perfect venue and room dressing to the welcome in rhyme from the Rochdale Pioneer to all the guests and the unique poem that said a thank you to all award winners

All involved at Wizardry ensured the client got a unique experience in a fun way exactly to their original remit
